Somatic Psychotherapy
What is Somatic (Body) Psychotherapy?
(see also my video on the welcome page)
Somatic Psychotherapy as defined by Core Development is a learning process that helps you create the quality of life that you desire.
By providing a safe space for you to experience what it is like to be yourself without criticism or expectations of how you should be, somatic psychotherapy enables you to live your life with greater passion, conviction and authenticity.
What do Somatic Psychotherapists do?
Somatic Psychotherapists work with the whole person. We recognise the connection between your mind and body and realise that no psychological change can take place without a corresponding physical change and vice-versa.
Methodology
Core Development’s method of body-centred or somatic psychotherapy offers a flexible and respectful combination of therapeutic methods to suit your individual needs.
These include, as and when appropriate, mindfulness, movement, body awareness, emotional expression and communication, gestalt dialogue, bodywork and talking.
Respect and Flexibility
Bodywork is used only when appropriate and with your full consent.
As your needs change, so will the methods used change to adapt to your needs.
Safety
All the methods used by Core Development aim to create a feeling of safety so you can be who you really are, and allow your innate wisdom to guide you in healing yourself.
Bottom Line
“Like many people in our culture, I used to look for ways of coming closer to my ideals. I thought I would be happier if I could be more successful at achieving my goals.
It had not occurred to me that the real issue is not just about achieving goals. It is also about the freedom and satisfaction of being myself.”
