I’ve been there – my story
As a teenager and young adult, I experienced severe anxiety and depression. From the age of fourteen, I was prescribed anti-depressants, tranquillisers and sleeping pills. Over time, my medications were increased. This was typical anxiety treatment and treatment for depression at the time.
I also saw a psychoanalyst for two years, three times a week, but still made little progress. I was dependent on medication, and terrified for my future.
At 24, I relocated to London. I felt I needed to be in a different place, a new place, to make a new beginning.
My Road To Recovery
I discovered a form of psychotherapy that was based on the understanding that disappointments, fears and other emotional injuries and unfinished business are stored not only in our brain, but also in our body as chronic tensions in our muscles, organs and energy fields.
I was sceptical, but desperate enough to try anything that might help, so I joined a group and had regular individual psychotherapy sessions working with these methods. Within three months, I was able to come off my medication.
It wasn’t an instant fix. I came to understand that it was an active and ongoing process. But I was able to adjust and start taking my life back into my own hands.
The change was so profound that I decided I wanted to train in these methods of counselling and psychotherapy so that I could help others effect similar changes in their own lives.
