Donald Marmara, Somatic and Emotional Learning Facilitator, Sydney
About Core Development & My Approach
Many people assume that looking for support means something is fundamentally wrong with them. This view is a byproduct of a culture that views all human struggles through a clinical lens.
While medical and clinical healthcare is essential for specific nervous system conditions, everyday stress and relationship challenges are a normal human response to a society that can be highly demanding and often disconnected.
When we label everyday emotional struggles as “illnesses,” I believe that we are missing the point. We treat the person as the problem, rather than looking at how they have learned to adapt to their environment.
A Learning Process, Not a Clinical Treatment
My work as an emotional and somatic learning facilitator is built on a simple truth: for many of us, nothing is fundamentally wrong.
While some individuals absolutely require a clinical diagnosis and medical treatment, many people are simply navigating human challenges.
Core Development is an experiential and creative learning process designed to support you in dealing effectively with these challenges.
Emotional and somatic learning facilitation is not about forcing yourself to fit into a demanding world; it is about learning how to live authentically within your own skin.
What to Expect in Our Work Together
Would you like to explore how you can stay true to yourself, whilst respecting other people’s opinions and rights, even at times when society doesn’t share your values? It’s a challenging question, and because we’re all different, there is no single answer.
Let’s work together to find what works for you.
Core Development is a potentially transformational learning approach. It draws on diverse somatic and emotional practices to help you shape your life in your own unique way. It is not psychotherapy and it is not a substitute for clinical psychotherapy or medical care.
-
- Constructive dialogue to explore what you want to create and what is holding you back.
- Body awareness to help you connect with yourself and experience the connection between your mind and your body.
- Experiential methods such as movement or role-play (when helpful and always with your full consent). When appropriate, these can serve to increase your self-awareness.
The ultimate goal is to help you build the clarity and confidence to engage fully and authentically with your work, your life, and the relationships that matter most to you – to make this world a better place for yourself, whilst playing your part in making it a better place for all of us.
